Le but de notre thèse est d’expliquer comment la conception de l’individualité chez Plotin permet d’apporter une réponse inédite et originale à la question classique du rapport entre le corps et l’âme. La première partie visera à définir la notion d’individualité pour l’âme dans la pensée plotinienne et de voir comment elle répond au problème de l’incorporation de l’âme, en montrant comment celle-ci prend appui sur les auteurs qui ont précédé Plotin et qui ont pu l’inspirer. Ensuite, nous montrerons comment l’individualité apporte un nouvel éclairage au fonctionnement de la descente de l’âme de l’intelligible dans le corps. Dans un troisième temps, nous décrivons le mécanisme de l’incorporation et notamment la manière dont ce mécanisme permet de soutenir l’idée que l’âme se modifie au gré de son histoire personnelle et en garde les traces même après la mort. Ce sera d’ailleurs notre dernier point : la survie de l’individualité de l’âme quand elle retourne dans l’intelligible, ainsi que la façon dont chacun peut, durant la vie incorporée, opérer ce retour intellectuel à l’intelligible.

The aim of our thesis is to explain how the conception of individuality in Plotinus can bring a new and original answer to the classical question about the relation between body and soul. The first part will aim to define the notion of soul's individuality in the plotinian thinking. We wand to show how the individuality explains the soul’s embodiment, thanks to the study of the philosophers who have tried to answer this question and who have inspired Plotinus. Then, we will throw another light on the operation of soul's descente, from the intelligible world to the body, thanks to the individuality. In a third time, we will describe the mecanism of embodiment and particularly the way by whom this mecanism can support the idea that the soul changes according to her personal story and keep it even after death. This will be our last point: the surviving of individuality when it goes back to the intelligible. We will see also how each one of us can make the return to the intelligible realm, when we are still incorporated.
